James and Ashley - Cheekwood Wedding

James and Ashley were married on October 10, 2009 at Cheekwood and wow, did we ever get some awesome photos! The weather was perfectly overcast but not a drop fell from the sky! I love shooting in this type of even light and I love to use my strobes to underexpose the background and make the clouds look stormy even more!! The wedding party was a blast. The guys were from Georgia and as far as I could tell were one of those groups of best friends that have been best friends for years and years and when they get together they pick up right where they left off. Everyone was excited about an upcoming Widespread Panic show and the groom's cake actually looked like Widespread album art! The bride is an amazing singer and had made a recording with the wedding guitarist earlier that week which was played at the ceremony and reception. It was lovely!

Matt and Regina - Engagement Portraits

Matt and Regina will be married in Franklin, TN on April 17, 2010. We shot about 75% of their images in downtown Nashville and then treked to North Nashville where we found an abandoned old truck and a red barn. We had a great time and it wasn't very hard to get Matt to look happy b/c he had just found out that he passed the Tennessee Bar Exam! Congratulations!

Adam and Ashley - Sunday Wedding

Adam and Ashley were married Sunday, October 4th at Cedarvine Manor in Lebanon, TN. I know that Ashley was very disappointed that it was a rainy day and they had to move her ceremony indoors, but the staff at Cedarvine made the ceremony beautiful. I don't know how they managed to do it in such a short period of time before guests began arriving but they must have carried 75 extra chairs up from the planned sight, wiped the rain off of them, then lit about 100 candles to make the place look beautiful. It was great! Also, this was a fun group of people. There was no way they were going to let the rain get them down. I think every guest at this wedding was on the dance floor all at once.... including the Chick-Filet Dairy Cow Mascot!

Amy and Patrick Wedding at Cedarvine Manor

Amy and Patrick were married at Cedarvine Manor in Lebanon, Tennessee on October 3, 2009. I had so much fun shooting this couple. They both have the best personalities! I'm so glad we became Facebook friends after their engagement portraits in the Spring b/c Patrick cracks me up with his posts and he was such a ham at the wedding that I laughed out loud a few times while editing their photos. And I spent all morning with Amy and the girls while they did hair and make-up and I love that the bride thought it would be a great idea to get all of the girls to climb to the top of a bouncy slide and go down at once for the photos! They were a fun couple and we ended up getting very fun photos!

Amy & Patrick - Rehearsal

I got myself a brand new toy to play with at Patrick and Amy's rehearsal dinner on the 2nd of October. It is a lens that opens up all the way to F1.4 on my new Cannon 5D mark ii. So its going to be easier for me to shoot in low light without flash. Here are some examples and trust me... this place was very dark.

Ross & Jill Engagement Portraits

Ross and Jill will be married on December 19, 2009 in Centerville, TN. It was a beautiful day and we began shooting on Ross' family farm before heading up to Jill's farm where the soon to be married couple are building a house. I enjoyed shooting in the house though it was unfinished b/c we had such great light and lots of walls for fun shots with negative space. My favorite shots of the day involved lots of heavy equipment at Ross' farm. The couple seemed unsure about it when we started shooting but they were sports and they have since told me that they were their favorite shots from the session!

Ashlee and Brian - Riverwood Mansion Wedding

Ashlee and Brian were married September 19th at Riverwood Mansion in East Nashville. Ashlee's mom made her dress and the cake topper they used was from Ashlee's mom's wedding. I love shooting at Riverwood and this couple was a lot of fun. It was one of my favorite weddings of the year, though it was absolutely the most challenging wedding of the year during the ceremony since it was nearly pitch dark outside and the only light was backlight from Christmas lights. The bride walked down the isle to Rocky Top triumphantly even though UT lost to Florida earlier that afternoon. These were true fans. The groom's cake was a miniature Nealand Stadium and the bride had a layer of orange ruffles under her dress.

Chuck and Emily at Cheekwood

Wow, I've been so busy that I'm 2 months behind on my blogger uploads. So behind that I started to link directly to my flickr stream from my website for a while. I'm going to try to catch up but my next 5 or 6 posts may be very short & uploaded mainly for the photo journal aspect and for posterity sake.

Today, nearly 2 months after Chuck & Emily's wedding, there was a beautiful write-up about it in the Tennessean so it must still be relevant to write about weddings from 2 months back. The article stated that their wedding was fit for a fairy tale. Some of my photographs from this wedding had to be some of the most whimsical of the year. Nashville artist, Mark Sloniker designed the bouquets and a flower for the flower girl's head and the bride (who is also a local artist) designed he own hat for the reception at Marathon Village. Everyone was invited to wear hats and I wore a derby myself as you can see flying in the group shot. I had the camera on a timer and asked everyone to toss their hats and show off their hat heads. I love the guy in the background holding up a football helmet!

This was definitely a fun wedding and to top it all off, Venus Hum performed at the reception!
